Samsung Micro QLED TVs Coming

Samsung filed a trademark for Micro QLED.

Samsung gets ready to introduce Micro QLED TVs. At the CES 2018, Samsung stunned with the Wall, a 146-inch module micro LED TV. Based on the discovered trademark, Samsung will market the Micro LED technology as Micro QLED in upcoming Samsung TVs.

MicroLED technology delivers high definition, without restrictions on size, resolution or form. It is a self-emitting TV with micrometer (µm) scale LEDs – which are much smaller than current LEDs, and serve as their own source of light. This is a similar trait to OLED TVs.

The MicroLED technology featured in "The Wall" eliminates the need for color filters or backlight, yet allows the screen to offer consumers the ultimate viewing experience. Also, the MicroLED screen excels in durability and effectiveness, including luminous efficiency, the light source lifetime and power consumption, setting the standard for future screen technology.

When Samsung is ready to sell Micro QLED TVs is unclear. The company has heavily promoted 4K UHD QLED TVs last year, but LG's OLED TV stayed on top. Depending on the price point, Samsung Micro QLED TVs could take on OLED TVs.

Samsung did not announce any new 2018 Samsung TVs at the CES 2018. The South Korean consumer electronics giant only presented new display technologies and smart TV technologies, but no new 2018 TV models. LG, Sony, TCL and other TV brands did present new 2018 4K TVs.

Besides the Wall micro LED TV, Samsung also showed an 8K TV at the CES 2018. The company has filed a trademark for 8K QLED as well, according to Dutch LetsGoDigital. I'm less excited about an 8K QLED TV than about a micro QLED TV. There will be no 8K content for a long time. Heck, we can't even watch the Super Bowl in 4K yet.
