First Amazon Go: Location, Opening Hours, What to Buy and More

The first Amazon Go store opens Monday, Jan. 22.

The future of the grocery store is here. The first Amazon Go shop opens today in Seattle. Amazon announced Amazon Go back in 2016. Initially planned to open in early 2017, it took Amazon a year longer to make the checkout-free store work.

In the Amazon Go store, you just walk through the aisle picking up the stuff you want and leave. There is no checkout or cashier. Amazon uses the same types of technologies used in self-driving cars: computer vision, sensor fusion, and deep learning. The Amazon Go store automatically detects when products are taken from or returned to the shelves and keeps track of them in a virtual cart. When you’re done shopping, you can just leave the store. Shortly after, Amazon sends you a receipt and charge your Amazon account.

The Amazon Go stores stock ready-to-eat breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack options made by Amazon chefs and favorite local kitchens and bakeries. The selection of grocery essentials ranges from staples like bread and milk to artisan cheeses and locally made chocolates. For a quick home-cooked dinner, pick up one of our chef-designed Amazon Meal Kits, with all the ingredients you need to make a meal for two in about 30 minutes.

To shop at Amazon Go you need an Amazon account, the free Amazon Go app, and a recent-generation iPhone or Android phone. You can find the Amazon Go app on the Apple App Store, Google Play, and Amazon Appstore.

When you arrive, use the app to enter the store, then you don't need the phone anymore and can just shop.

The location of the first Amazon Go store is in Seattle at 2131 7th Ave. The Amazon Go store opening hours are 7am to 9pm, Monday through Friday. Find out the latest on Amazon Go on
