The iPhone Generation of Adolescents are Absolutely Miserable--- New study finds that more screen time is coincides with less happiness in youths

Happiness and time spent on your iPhone are two contradictory things, says a latest report on teenage addiction to iPhone technology.

According to this new research, teenagers who spend most of their time with their eyes glued to their smartphone screens tend to feel less happy than those teens who led a more balanced lifestyle.

The level of happiness seems to depend upon following the golden mean as well as distributing one’s energies between several different spheres of life such as sports, family, friends, studies and leisure. While enjoying one’s iPhone was one of the pleasures of modern existence, it was not the only one or for that matter the most important.

A survey of more than a million US teenagers showed that those who spend massive amounts of time on Facebook, engaged in texting or video chatting tended to also have lesser happiness in their lives.

As opposed to this trend of becoming technology freaks, those who took part in sports activities, read books, magazines and newspapers at libraries and had friends with whom they interacted in real life tended to be more fulfilled.

Their satisfaction in fact knew no bounds. The use of social media is the main causative agent of unhappiness and discontent in society. After spending even some time on Facebook, many teens reported feeling depressed and down in the dumps.

The conclusion which was reached was that to regain one’s happiness such teens would have to curtail the time they spent online and re-engage with the real world and the great outdoors.

This new study got published on January 22, 2018 in the journal Emotion.
