NES Classic Is Still Coming

Nintendo reiterates plans to release NES Classic in the briefing.

Nintendo mentions the NES Classic in the earnings in the financials result briefing for the year ending March 2018. Nintendo still plans to relaunch the sale of the NES Classic this year.

Update May 14: Nintendo announced to release the NES Classic again on June 29. "We have announced that we will resume production for NES Classic Edition this year. We plan to continue selling NES Classic Edition and Super NES Classic Edition this year. We view them as an opportunity to garner interest in Nintendo Switch from those who have not interacted with video games in a long time, or ever," says Nintendo.

Nintendo initially announced to re-release the NES Classic in September of last year. The statement said: "Next summer, Nintendo will also bring back the Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition system with new shipments. More information about the timing of the return of NES Classic Edition will be announced in the future."

We still do not know when the NES Classic will go on sale again. Summer is a very vague time frame. The 2016 NES Classic sold for $59.99. In case Nintendo adds a second controller, the 2018 NES Classic will be more expensive. The new price could be $69.99, which is still $10 cheaper than the SNES Classic.

Nintendo has sold 4 million SNES Classic units world-wide to date. The NES Classic sales reached 2.3 million before Nintendo halted to production in April of 2017.
