Amazon Buys Video Doorbell Startup Ring

Ring gets acquired by Amazon for reportedly over $1 Billion.

Amazon expands its hardware unit with the products and team from video doorbell startup Ring. According to Reuters, Amazon shells out more than $1 billion for the home security gadget company. Amazon acquired the maker of Blink home security cameras for about $90 million late last year.

Ring's video doorbell fits into the new Amazon service of in-home delivery. The news about the acquisition was first reported on GeekWire. Amazon and Ring have issued statements confirming the deal.

“Ring’s home security products and services have delighted customers since day one,” an Amazon spokesperson said in a statement. “We’re excited to work with this talented team and help them in their mission to keep homes safe and secure.”

Amazon was already an investor in Ring via its Alexa Fund. Ring's video doorbells are on sale on amazon.com. The Ring Video Doorbell 2 is the best seller for $169 in the remote home monitoring systems section.
