Cute Winky Companion Robot for Kids In the Works

French robotic startup develops a robot for kids.

Mainbot, based in Paris, showed off Winky at the International Toy Fair 2018 in Germany earlier this year. Winky is a cute little robot that has been designed to be a companion for kids capable of establishing a strong emotional bond. The bot teaches children the principles of not only coding, but also robotics, through AR games and exercises.

Winky is also modular and its main head unit can be placed on other toys or accessories. The Mainbot team has worked on Winky for over a year. The pre-orders for Winky are supposed to come soon. You can sign-up for updates on the Winky site.

Robot companion like we are used seeing in Star Wars since decades will eventually become reality. Winky could a step towards a real BB-8. Already a reality is the little Cozmo robot by Anki. Winky needs to go beyond what Cozmo can do since two years to have a chance on the toy market.
