NES Classic Release Date: Why Wait until Summer?

Nintendo releases the NES Classic Edition again in 2018.

Nintendo will re-release the NES Classic this summer. Why fans have to wait until Summer is not known. Why not Spring? To release consumer electronics in the Summer is highly unusual. During the summer months, people spend most time outside and enjoy the sun. One reason for the off-season launch could be the fear of Nintendo to not again meet the demand for the NES Classic.

On the other hand, Nintendo has shown with the SNES Classic that they can eventually make enough. If you want a SNES Classic you can get one. It's not always in stock online and in stores, but often enough to pick one up.

Summer as release time frame is also very vague. Is it going to be early June or as late as the end of August? So far we could not spot any evidence that the release of the 2018 NES Classic is prepared. In the meantime, people continue to fall for fake NES Classic Editions. Let's hope Nintendo uses the time to update the new NES Classic to make it easier for consumers to identify it as an original. A longer controller cable and a second controller would also be very much welcomed.

The NES Classic Edition was launched on Nov. 11, 2016. Nintendo announced to re-release the NES Classic in September 2017. The statement said: "Next summer, Nintendo will also bring back the Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition system with new shipments. More information about the timing of the return of NES Classic Edition will be announced in the future." In February of 2018, the company re-confirmed that the NES Classic indeed will make its comeback this Summer.
