Infamous Nintendo Switch Firmware 5.0.0 Is Out

The Nintendo Switch Firmware 5.0 is released.

Early January Nintendo Switch fans were super excited about the firmware 5.0.0 for the Nintendo Switch. The firmware 5.0 update would bring features including Youtube, full web browser, cloud storage, chat rooms, themes and more, shown off in a "leaked video." The video turned out the be fake and a fabrication of a Nintendo fan. Now the real firmware 5.0.0 is here and its a rather boring update with no major new features.

Nintendo Switch owners get with firmware 5.0.0 24 new ARMS and the Kirby series icons for their user account. Facebook and Twitter friends that also use Nintendo Switch can now be added through Friend Suggestions and digital software purchases made from a PC or smart device will start downloading sooner than previously, even if the Nintendo Switch console is in Sleep Mode. You receive notifications when pre-purchased software is ready to play

To keep the Parental Controls PIN private, the default method for PIN entry has been changed to entering using the Control Stick and buttons instead of the on-screen number pad. When prompted to enter your Parental Controls PIN, press and hold the + Button to change between input methods.

Using the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app, add specific software titles to your whitelist to exclude them from the console’s Parental Controls Restricted Software setting. Play-Time Limit restrictions will still apply even when the software title has been whitelisted.

The Nintendo Switch Pro Controller grip colors will now display in the Controllers menu. Nintendo apparently codes the color of the grip electronically inside the controller.

The Nintendo Switch will automatically download the firmware 5.0.0 firmware while it is connected online. You can verify your current menu version and manually start the update from the System Settings menu if necessary.

The Nintendo Switch consoles continue its momentum into 2018. In the top 10 best-selling video games on Amazon.com are only Switch titles. The best-selling title is Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, on sale for $39.96 shipping July 10.
