Why is Google News so Bad?

Google News is showing stores that are several days old on top. Why?

This is bothering me for a while now. I use obviously Google a lot for research on new stories or check on new developments. Google News used to show fresh reports, but since several months or maybe even a year, I see very often stories ranked on top that are several days old.

For instance, searching for "toysrus" in Google News results in a list of reports dated March 23 or even March 22. That's three, respectively four-day-old stories. Why is Google doing this? I want to know the latest news from ToysRUs and not what I know already since days.

To get fresh news, I need to use the tools set and select "past hour." This is though often too restrictive. I need to switch to full Google Search and there I need to again select "past hour" to see the freshest results for the topic ToysRUs. And finally, I see reports about the liquidation sale and what deals shoppers actually found in TRU stores.

I'm I alone with this annoying issue with Google News? ToysRUs is just an example I stumbled upon today. If you search for "Stormy Daniels" Google News works and you see reports that are fresh. My guess is that there is some sort of threshold of how many new reports come in for a topic. If there are too few, older reports stay on top of the results. The effect is that I'm confronted with old news rather often. Bing News is not any better, but a 2-day old report about ToysRUs from us ranks on top, so I don't mind.
