Nintendo shipped new SNES Classic Stock to GameStop. Updated.
The Super NES Classic is in stock online at GameStop since around 3 pm ET, March 27. As of the time of writing this report, the SNES Classic is in stock for 7 hours at gamestop.com. The SNES Classic was in the past weeks only available in short bursts at GameStop, but never as long as now. Update: The SNES Classic Edition is now in stock for almost 24 hours at gamestop.com.
Other stores have not restocked the Super NES Classic Edition, but we expect that Nintendo will now also resupply Walmart, Amazon, and others with the SNES Classic. Eventually, the SNES Classic will be staying on shelves the same way as the Nintendo Switch. The Japanese video game maker did a great job so far with the supply of the popular Nintendo Switch. If you want one, you can buy one now online.
Once the SNES Classic is fully resupplied, Nintendo is set to re-release the NES Classic Edition. The 2018 NES Classic is according to Nintendo coming in summer. Why Nintendo is waiting for the release until Summer is unclear, as we analyzed in this report. There is no good reason to release a console or any consumer electronics product for that matter in summer.
In the meantime, fake NES Classic that looks completely identical to the 2016 NES Classic are swamping eBay and other marketplaces. We hope that Nintendo will update the NES Classic before the re-release. At least a second controller and longer controller cables would be very welcome improvements. A big hologram sticker or RFID tag in the packaging would make it easier for consumers to identify an original NES Classic.
Nintendo has reiterated last month that the NES Classic is coming again in Summer. There is still a huge demand for the NES Classic, despite the availability of the SNES Classic.
The retro releases have turned out to be a huge success for Nintendo. The reinvigorated video game company has sold 4 million SNES Classic units worldwide to date. The NES Classic sales reached 2.3 million before Nintendo halted to production in April of 2017.
