iPhones may have Curved Screens and Touchless Gesture Controls in the Times to Come

Apple is busy adding two new technologies to its repertoire. These are touchless gesture control and curvy display screens. The two projects are still in their nascent phases.

It will take till 2020 to see them fully functional in the real world, according to a report by Bloomberg. Apple’s main competitor, Samsung, has had both technologies as a part of its previous fare.

The air gestures on the Galaxy S4 let its owners check out photos or go down a scroll by merely using hand swipes at a distance. The air view mode allowed actions bearing an uncanny resemblance to Apple’s 3D Touch System.

All you have to do is keep your finger stationary over a major area and the results will start coming instantly. Samsung Galaxy S smartphones have had curved screens since quite some time.

As for Apple’s curved screen iPhone, it would have a curve that ran from top to bottom. Hovering finger gestures have been subject to extensive experimentation in the past by various high tech companies. Microsoft was one of them and its Windows phone faced bad luck right from the start.

The Kinect phone gestures show promise for the future though. Floating touch interactions in general have been tried and found wanting despite the media hype built around them.

They are hardly practical at this stage in our evolution in the capacity of being a tech-savvy species. Thus Apple has all the time and space left to do what it can to popularize and then profit from this scheme of things.

As the facility is better integrated into user experience, Apple will have done it once again by sheer hard work and the innovative edge which it possesses in scads. Only time will tell whether this bold move into futuristic pays off or not.
