Robo Wunderkind: A Lego Compatible Robot Kit with Visual Coding App Enters STEM Toy Scene

Austrian startup sells cool brick based robot kits to teach kids coding.

Robo Wunderkind robot kits are comprised of colorful blocks that let kids quickly build robots. Through adapters, the creations can be extended with regular Lego bricks. The so-called Robo modules are brought to life by the Robo Code App: a visual coding tool based on drag-and-drop principle. The app comprises the growing library of tutorials and pre-set projects to encourage the users to explore, invent and create while learning by doing.

“Our team is committed to promoting digital literacy and making technologies more accessible for children and parents”, says Anna Iarotska, CEO, and co-founder of Robo Wunderkind. ”Our intuitive apps and smart modular robots transform the learning of such vital skill as coding into fun and engaging experience, like never before”.

The product range currently includes Robo Wunderkind Starter Kit available for $249, containing all the essentials for countless hours of play: main and connector blocks, distance sensor, 3 powerful motors (DC and servo), RGB light module, button, wheels, connectors and 4 Lego adapters.

Advanced and Professional Kits are available online for pre-order provide additional upgrade modules including temperature, light sensors, and programmable LED display.

The Robo Wunderkind kits are available online at the company's online shop. There is right now a 15% discount code (ROBOSPRING) available.

The market for robot kits that teach kids how to code gets crowded very quickly. Lego itself has with the Lego Boost Creative Toolbox a very accessible robot building kit with a visual coding app.

Robo Wunderkind started out as Kickstarter campaign in 2015. This week the company announced a $1.25 million investment from SOSV, Austrian Federal Promotional Bank, and business angels. The video below shows how to build and program a moving robot with the Robo Wunderkind system.
