The Porsche Macan GTS One Year Review

After one year driving the Macan GTS, I still love this Porsche a lot.

Recently Porsche sent me a 1-year ownership present, reminding me that I own the white 2017 Porsche Macan GTS already a year. This Porsche is the perfect car for me and has not disappointed me once. The 360hp give the Macan GTS the necessary power to get the sportscar feeling while offering the convenience of a mid-size SUV.

I owned a Porsche 991 4S Convertible before the Macan GTS. The emotions are obviously much higher driving and owning a 911, but the convenience factors the Macan GTS is offering are significant. Don't get me wrong, there are definitely emotions driving the Macan GTS, especially in Sport mode. The Macan GTS is the more efficient driving machine for me on a daily basis.

The higher seating position compared to a 911 gives me the overview to overtake sooner than I could in the 911. I don't feel lost in heavy rain on the Geman Autobahn when passing a truck like I did in the 911. The Porsche Macan has a real trunk and folding rear-seats, enabling me to transport almost anything. Because my 911 was a convertible, there was some flexibility in transporting bigger things, but only when it was not raining.

The Macan GTS is like a swiss army knife. You can make ski trips with the family to the mountains and not fear road conditions. You can cruise relaxed with 200km/h on the Autobahn or bring your kids to school in the city. If there is a construction site blocking half the street, I just drive up the curb and drive on. I just did that before writing this story - impossible with a 911.

The first year was great in the Macan GTS and I look forward to several more years. There have been no technical issues with the Macan GTS whatsoever. In an ideal world though, I would like to own the Macan GTS and a 911 convertible in addition. I would not trade-in the Macan GTS for a 911. I would want both.

The Porsche Macan GTS starts at $68,900 in the US. That price already includes a ton of features like PASM, PTM, and 20-inch RS Spyder wheels. The cheapest Porsche 911 starts at $91,100 and is pretty much naked. The Porsche Macan GTS is Porsche's best bargain.
