Future Samsung Galaxy Have a Notch

New Samsung patent shows screen with notch design.

Back in February Samsung made fun of Apple for the notch on the iPhone X during the Galaxy S9 reveal. Now a patent surfaced in the Chinese patent office showing Samsung phone design with a notch.

The mocking of the iPhone X for the notch could be short-lived if the patent is an indication for the next generation Galaxy.

During the Galaxy S9 presentation Samsung said according to 9to5Mac "When we released the Infinity Display, most people had never seen anything like it. Its groundbreaking design offered more screen in less space, and quickly set a new industry standard. With the S9, we’ve built on this foundation, taking the same immersive end-to-end display, and refining it even further. We’ve created a design so sleek and unified, you can hardly tell where the screen ends. And as always, you know, there’s no notch.”

The notch definitely feels as a big design compromise that now more and more smartphone manufacturers adopt as they see now way around it when maximizing the screen to bezel ratio.

Eventually, front sensors will become invisible, becoming part of the screen like it happens already with the fingerprint scanner. Cameras and other sensors will disappear too. Alternatively, Samsung's design for a two-sided display can reduce the number of front-facing sensors.

The Samsung notch patent was spotted in the SIPO database by Dutch mobielkopen. You can read the patent here.
