Some Classic Sega Games are Arriving on the Switch Including Sega Genesis and Master System Games

An event in Japan pointed towards new developments on the Sega front. Both Genesis and Master System games will come to the Switch. Thus memories of the mid-80s will be making a comeback in the minds of gamers.

Sega executives have been unable to find any leisure time. That is because for the most time they have been busy with the Shenmue I/II rerelease. Also, a micro-console is coming soon to the platform. However, for gamers, Sega Ages is a big development on the horizon.

The overall package will contain over a dozen titles. Right now there are only three titles. These happen to be: Sonic the Hedgehog, Phantasy Star and Thunder Force 4, according to Polygon.

If the experts are right, they will be direct ports and not remasters. Other stuff on the platform includes art studios, save states and the capacity of making games go backward.

All this remains in the realm of speculation for now. Both 8-bit and 16-bit games from Sega will arrive on the latest systems. The time of arrival is during the hot summer months of 2018. The names of the 12 remaining games are still a mystery.

Sonic the Hedgehog will be available only in its original form. The other two versions of it will probably not work their way onto the platform.

Many Nintendo Switch enthusiasts take this to be a substitute for the Virtual Console. Nintendo is playing it cool though. The 15 games from Sega will add to the already expanding list of games on the Switch.
