Counterpoint recently released the results of their research which covered the last calendar quarter of 2017.According to the research, Apple has taken the top spot in the smartphone profit market yet again. Furthermore, iPhone X alone became the top collector as it accounted for 35 percent of the Apple sales which is almost the one-third.

AppleInsider reported that Counterpoint Research found out that Apple has gained 1 percent of total profits in a static smartphone market annually. During the fourth quarter of 2017, the iPhone X was responsible for bringing in five times of profit out of the combined profits generated by over 600 Android manufacturers.

Counterpoint Research Analyst Karn Chauhan said in a statement, "The share of iPhone X is likely to grow as it advances further into its life-cycle, the longer shelf life of all iPhones ensured that Apple still has eight out of top 10 smartphones, including its three-year-old models, generating the most profits compared to current competing smartphones from other OEMs."

Discussing Apple's quarterly earnings statement, Apple CEO Tim Cook noted iPhone X has become their biggest seller since they began shipping to customers.

The trend also indicated that the iPhone X was the biggest seller every week during the holiday season. It outsold it’s counterpart iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus between October and December as reported by Counterpoint.

Cook said in a statement that "[The] iPhone X surpassed our expectations and has been our top-selling iPhone every week since it shipped in November. We've also achieved a significant milestone with our active installed base of devices reaching 1.3 billion in January. That's an increase of 30 percent in just two years, which is a testament to the popularity of our products and the loyalty and satisfaction of our customers."

iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus held the number two and three spots in the Counterpoint research.Apple started to ship the models to customers starting on Sept. 22.

Rumors indicate that until the news of the release of iPhone X sales started, the iPhone 8 Plus was more popular than the iPhone 8 was.Apple had to accommodate manufacture orders to balance sales with the then stock-limited iPhone X.
