How to Find Sega Mega Drive (Genesis) Mini in Stock

Sega releases Sega Mega Drive Mini console in 2018.

Sega announced a Sega Mega Drive Mini console to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the once popular video game console. Sega is hopping on the trend kicked off by Nintendo with the NES Classic release. Sega showed off a prototype of the Sega Mega Drive Mini (tentative name) at the Sega Fest this weekend in Japan.

The Sega Mega Drive Mini is according to Sega to be released first in Japan and later this year in the United States. Sega has long abandoned hardware development. They got out in 2001 after the failed Dreamcast console. This is why the turned apparently to ATGames to make the Sega Mega Drive Mini.

AtGames is already selling a Sega Genesis Flashback console that gets mixed reviews. This reputation is possibly the reason, ATGames removed initial comments on Facebook about the Sega Mega Drive Mini. Polygon had linked these Facebook posts, but they are gone now from the social media account of ATGFlashback.

We will have to wait until the release of the Sega Mega Drive Mini to find out its quality of gameplay of the pre-installed titles. The Sega Mega Drive Mini will not be as big as the Nintendo's retro consoles NES Classic and SNES Classic. If you want to be among the first to buy the Sega Mega Drive Mini, get the free online inventory tracking app The Tracker and select "Notify Me" on the Sega Mega Drive Mini listing.

The Sega Mega Drive, sold as Sega Genesis in the US, was released in 1988. Sega sold over 30 million of the 16-bit console until the company discontinued it in 1997.
