Ford Builds a New Cobra Jet Mustang to Mark 50 Years of the Car’s Progress. 2018 Ford Mustang Cobra Jet is targeted to be the most powerful and quickest version from the factory ever, capable of running the quarter-mile in the mid-8-second range while topping 150 mph.

This day in time is the Ford company’s Cobra Jet Mustang’s 50th anniversary. Ford is thus busy manufacturing a couple of these vehicles to celebrate the occasion. 68 such cars will get assembled at its factories and they will be either in race red or oxford white colors.

This Mustang by Ford is the fastest with a quarter mile time in a mid-8 second range. The speed goes up to 150 mph. The speed is there thanks to a Coyote V8 engine. This year, the engine has been revamped so that it is larger than the previous one.

Ford made an addition of 200 cc for 5.2 liters of displacement. The Cobra Jet does not have the normal Mustang’s independent rear suspension either. What is present instead is a 9 inch rear axle and four-link suspension.

This 50th anniversary Ford Mustang Cobra Jet vehicle is ready for action and will compete with a roll cage and racing seats that are NHRA and FIA certified respectively. Thus it can compete in events that bear the stamp of approval of the NHRA.

That is not like the super-powered Dodge. The only problem is that a Mustang can’t be driven on the streets. That is because it has no VIN and is not registered at all.

However, that does not detract from its value and Ford will hopefully be selling every Cobra Jet down to the last sample left in the bunch it has manufactured recently. The version that came out two years ago cost $100,000. This year’s Ford Mustang Cobra Jet version will be no different in its price tag.

“From the very first Mustang Cobra Jets dominating the 1968 NHRA Winternationals to our modern-day Cobra Jet racers, the Ford Performance Parts team continues to build the Cobra Jet brand based on its success at the track over five decades,” said Eric Cin, global director, Ford Performance Parts. “That, in turn, has inspired generations of Mustang fans to create their own performance machines for the street.”

The 2018 Ford Mustang Cobra Jet features an available commemorative 50th-anniversary graphics package and anniversary badging. Final ordering and product specifications of 2018 Ford Mustang Cobra Jet will be released this summer.

50th Anniversary Ford Mustang Cobra Jet is designed to be legal for National Hot Rod Association drag racing, along with several National Mustang Racers Association and National Muscle Car Association classes.
