Productivity is the only thing that stands between you and your goals. Whether you’re trying to cross that huge project off of your to-do list or getting your tedious daily errands done, maintaining productivity is how you get it all done smoothly. 1.Make a List

It’s a simple task, but it’s a stellar way to organize your mind so you can make sure you know exactly what you need to do for that day. You can even set up multiple lists for that day. For example, you can write out a “things you need to grab before you leave the house” list or a “times to drink water” list. Whatever you need to remember that day, write it down.

If you have it written it’s going to stick in your head and give you a nicely laid out plan for the rest of your day.

2. Get Rid of Your Distractions

Get all of those things out of your sight, whether it’s your trusty smartphone or your current favorite book. Turn off your wifi (if your work doesn’t need it.) Make sure that physical things like your phone are out of reach as well so you won’t have easy access to them when you feel the urge.

When you aren’t giving your work the attention that it needs, the quality goes down drastically and you end up taking more time doing it than you would otherwise.

The best thing that you can do is set up a loose schedule for your work. Try and pick one thing to work on at a time, and set a time span for you to only work on that one thing. 4. Give Yourself Incentives

We all like to be rewarded every once in a while. Remember in elementary school, when you used to get those sparkly gold stars from your teacher on your assignments? Incentives give you that gold star feeling even as an adult.

You can set long-term incentives, short-term incentives, or both. It’s up to you. For example, when I’m writing I like to give myself some Skittles for every two hundred and fifty words. It’s small enough to keep me working on my assignments but substantial enough to keep my attention even when I’m writing about something I don’t necessarily like.

It all depends on what you prefer. Go for a walk outside. Watch a 30-minute television show. Allow yourself 15 minutes of mindless internet time. Give yourself a quick snack. Figure out what works for you. Then, write that down on a Post-It note and place it right where you can see it so you can always be reminded of it.

The key is to be strict and not let yourself indulge when you haven’t achieved your goal. If your incentive is to go outside for ten minutes after you’ve finished a couple math problems but you end up being out for 30, then that might mess up your whole entire work session. You’ve got to be honest with yourself and get on a schedule that works for you.

5. Do What Sucks First

When you have a project or assignment that’s lingering on the back of your mind it can cloud your thinking and in turn lower your productivity. Even if it sucks, get it out the way as soon as possible. Once you cross that unsightly task from your to-do list you can breathe a sigh of relief and start on the things that you actually enjoy.

6. Break Up Your Big Projects into Mini-Tasks

Big projects can be scary head-on. But once you knock it down to size, it’s not going to be that bad. Take your big projects apart and write down all that you need to get done. Schedule out a long time period for you to take it on piece by piece, and try to finish it out earlier than the due date to make room for edits. Now, it’s just a small fry.

7. Organize Your Workspace

How much time have you spent looking around for a red pen or a paperclip? That endless search gives you unnecessary stress and takes you away from what needs you the most: your work. Once you give your trusty pens and loose leaf paper a place to call home, you’ll never have to waste tons of time looking for something random.
