Top Gadgets of 2018 So Far

Here are our picks of the best consumer electronics to buy this year so far.

The first four months of 2018 are almost done. A lot has already happened in the consumer electronics and gadget world so far this year. We take a look at the best and most exciting new devices to get your hands on this year so far.

For us the biggest new thing in 2018 so far are stand-alone VR headsets. The first one to market in the United States will be Lenovo with the Lenovo Mirage Solo. Stand-alone VR headsets do not require a PC or mobile phone. There is a computer inside the glasses. Lenovo's Solo is upping the game with advanced tracking that allows you to duck, dodge, sidestep and leap, just like in real life. the 6DoF tracking is the big difference to the much cheaper new Oculus Go Stand-alone VR headset to be released soon.

This brings us to our second pick for the top 5 gadgets of 2018 so far. The Oculus Go does not have the advanced tracking, but Facebook's stand-alone VR headset is only $199, compared to $399, the Lenovo Mirage Solo is selling for. You can save $50 when you buy the Mirage Solo and Camera bundle.

While the Lenovo Mirage Solo ships on May 6, Facebook has not announced a release date yet for the Oculus Go.

Our third gadget in our hottest devices chart for 2018 are the Axum Gear wireless earbuds. This new brand delivers on its promise of delivering full sound with deep bass and incredible wear security, ready for the most extreme workouts. True wireless earbuds are finally here and good enough for everyday use.

The fourth consumer electronics product we are very excited about was just announced yesterday. The Toshiba Fire TV Edition Smart TVs to be released this Summer will be a serious alternative to Roku, Android TV, and other smart TV platforms.

Our number 5 in our hottest gadgets of 2018 so far is the Huawei P20 Pro. The Huawei P20 Pro is the world’s first Leica triple camera leveraged by new AI capabilities. The P20 Pro gets raving reviews, but it's still unclear if it will be officially sold in the United States due to the Trump administration's pushback against the Chinese tech giant. If you get your hands on one, you will stand out and roll with a stylish smartphone that has an extreme camera.

2018 is still young and there will be for sure many more new exciting personal tech to be released. We continue to cover the hottest new releases and help you find it and own them as one of the first. What is your hottest 2018 gadget so far? Share it in the comments below.
