Oculus Go Shows Up on Geekbench

The $199 Oculus Go Stand-alone VR Headset runs on Android 7.1.2.

Ahead of the Facebook developer conference F8, the new Oculus Go stand-alone virtual reality headset gets benchmarked on Geekbench. As reported earlier today, the $199 Oculus Go VR headset is now available for pre-order on amazon.com. Under the codename "Pacific" the Oculus Go has been tested on Geekbench already on April 26.

Facebook has been not that forthcoming yet with the hardware details of the Oculus Go. What has been announced so far is that the Oculus Go runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor. According to Geekbench report, the CPU is clocked at 2.19Ghz. The Snapdragon 821 has 4 cores and can use 3GB (2,777MB) of RAM, running Android 7.1.2.

The single-core score is 1,687 and the multi-core score comes in at 3,824 for the Oculus Go. In comparison, the Google Pixel phone has a 1,660 single core score and 4,182 for multi-core. The Snapdragon in the Pixel runs though only at 1.59Ghz but achieves higher scores. The processor in the Oculus Go is not a performance monster, but it doesn't have to be.

The Oculus Go is the perfect easy to use VR headset for everyday use to immerse in videos, games and social apps. For high-end VR, you have to turn to the Oculus Rift. For high-end stand-alone VR headset, you have to wait for the Oculus Santa Cruz headset.

Facebook has revealed in January that Xiaomi is the manufacturer of the Oculus Go. Designed with breathable fabrics, Oculus Go is comfortable and fully adjustable. It can also be used with glasses. The 3D visuals are combined with spatial audio for complete immersion. The Oculus Go display features a 2,560x1,440px resolution. The audio output is integrated into the headset. The experience using the Oculus Go is like watching video on a 30-foot screen. The glasses come bundled with a remote controller.

Facebook is very likely announcing the release date of Oculus Go today at the F8 developer conference in San Jose. Pre-order the Oculus Go now to secure your unit. The Oculus Go will be much more popular than the more expensive Lenovo Mirage Solo that ship Saturday.
