The $199 Oculus Go Stand-alone VR Headset release date is May 1.

The Oculus Go will be released on the first day of the Facebook developer conference F8. Best Buy stores have the Oculus Go already on the store shelves ready to be sold today, May 1. As reported earlier today, the $199 Oculus Go VR headset is now available for pre-order on amazon.com.

With today as a release date, the Oculus Go beats the Lenovo Mirage Solo to the market in the US as first stand-alone virtual reality headset. The Oculus Go comes as a 32GB and a 64GB model, according to a redditor who took a photo of locked Oculus Go boxes at a Best Buy store.

The price for the 64GB Oculus Go is not known yet. The 32GB model has a $199 price-tag. Mark Zuckerberg is expected to announce the Oculus Go availability in his keynote at F8 at 10 am PDT.

The Oculus Go is the perfect easy to use VR headset for everyday use to immerse in videos, games and social apps. For high-end VR, you have to turn to the Oculus Rift. For high-end stand-alone VR headset, you have to wait for the Oculus Santa Cruz headset.

Facebook has revealed in January that Xiaomi is the manufacturer of the Oculus Go. Designed with breathable fabrics, Oculus Go is comfortable and fully adjustable. It can also be used with glasses. The 3D visuals are combined with spatial audio for complete immersion.

The Oculus Go display features a 2,560x1,440px resolution. The audio output is integrated into the headset. The experience using the Oculus Go is like watching video on a 30-foot screen. The glasses come bundled with a remote controller.

Pre-order the Oculus Go now to secure your unit. The Oculus Go will be much more popular than the more expensive Lenovo Mirage Solo that ship Saturday.
