Nintendo’s new president hopes to expand Nintendo’s presence on internet gaming to make 100-billion-yen target

Nintendo has become one of the biggest names in the gaming industry in the year 2017. The game developer was barely keeping afloat. New life came to the company when they released the Nintendo Switch gaming console.

Nintendo Switch has become the world's top-selling gaming console. It is supporting hundreds of games presently and more and more games are being announced every day for the gaming console.

It seems to be president, Tatsumi Kimishima greatest achievement in his career. He is retiring and the new president, Shuntaro Furukawa is set to take over the company by June.

Furukawa has his own idea in mind about where he will be taking Nintendo next. A younger contender compared to his predecessor, he has his eye set on making mobile gaming the next big venture for Nintendo.

He wants to make Nintendo a business worth 100 billion yen ($910 million USD). He said in his interview with Nikkei, "From what I can see, smartphone games are the ones I want to expand the most. The idea that something will emerge that transforms into something big, in the same manner as game consoles, is the defining motif of the Nintendo business."

Nintendo has not have had a very prominent presence on the mobile gaming forum. Furukawa hopes to change that. He said that they want to make a worldwide business with a singular hit like Niantic’s Pokémon Go. In the meantime, the Nintendo Switch games are the driver for Nintendo's current success. Right now the Lego Incredibles is a best-selling title priced at $39.99 on amazon.com.
