Online publishers are facing another Google Search update.

Google News is a very important source of traffic for online news publishers. Every time Google is changing something on its dominating search engine, it can have a big impact on online publishers.

Apparently, online publishers need to brace themselves for impact at Google I/O 2018 taking place next week. Google News will be relaunched with a new design that will merge elements of the Newsstand app and YouTube, according to sources of advertising industry magazine AdAge.

The new Google News will incorporate the digital magazine app Google Newsstand and the news section of YouTube. It will be entirely built on Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP).

Google Newsstand is expected to close as part of the News redesign. Google News will change on mobile and desktop and Google will release a new Google News App. Google has supposedly already informed major publishers about the update. What the impact of the new Google News will be on the traffic of individual online publishers remains to be seen.

Google is expected to reveal the new consolidated Google News release at the Google I/O 2018 kicking off on May 8. Besides the Google News, the company is likely revealing Android P, updates to Google Assistant, VR, AR and more at its annual developer conference. Google I/O keynotes and sessions will be live streamed on Youtube.
