Samsung launches new ISOCELL SLIM 3P9 Image Sensor

New camera sensor from Samsung to speed up smartphone production.

Samsung, a world leader in consumer electronics, lately has unveiled a new 16 Megapixel ISOCELL Slim 3P9 image sensor. This image sensor with 1.0μm-pixel size is an ideal plug and play solution for newer class of smartphones, due to its plug and play capacity smart phones manufacturers won’t have to spend months of time into configuring it for their different products.

16-megapixel CMOS image sensor (S5K3P3) with 1.0μm-pixel size was first introduced by Samsung back in 2015, since then they have been working on new ways to provide turn-key, pre-optimized camera modules for different smartphone manufacturers.

The plug and play feature allows for faster deployment of a new product in the market, there is no requirement for spending time on optimizing the camera module with the mobile processor.

“Since the optimization and reliability tests are done beforehand at the module-level rather than on the sensor alone, manufacturers can simply plug the camera module onto their device, saving up to four months of development time,” says Samsung.

The Tetracell technology used in these image sensors enables the front-facing cameras to take brighter pictures even in the low-lit surroundings, this technology merges four neighbouring pixels allowing the 3P9 to function as a 2.0μm image sensor.

With Valued Camera eXperience (VCX)-grade image quality, and no need to spend time on optimization, Samsung also offers an ISOCELL Plug and Play solution for the 3P9 in a rear camera module.

Unlike conventional PDAF sensors, 3P9 image sensors have double auto-focus agent density; this empowers the cameras with faster auto-focusing and also allows them to capture more light while taking pictures and recording videos.

The 3P9 image sensors also have a gyro-synchronizer which stabilizes the pictures and videos that are taken while a person using the camera is in motion. The gyro-synchronizer capture movement data from smartphones’ gyroscope and synchronize it with the frame exposure time from the 3P9 image sensors.

Instead of checking each frame for detection and compensation of the angular movement, the devices’ mobile processor can simply adjust the frames according to the movement data that is captured from the gyroscope.

Hur, vice president of System LSI marketing at Samsung Electronics. “The ISOCELL Plug and Play solution will help reduce time-to-market for set makers and offer a quality-assured camera solution to end-users.”
