Android P Beta: What Users need to know about New Version of Android

The highlights of new Android 9.0 OS.

Google just released a beta version of Android Operating System 9.0; a stable version is expected to be made available in mid to late August 2018. The updated version will be available in Google Pixel Devices as soon as it is released, other device manufacturers might take some as they will need to tweak the new OS for their smartphones and tablets.

With hundreds of improvements, Android P is simpler and intelligent as compared to the previous version, according to Google their focus has been on Digital Wellbeing of their users.

Intelligence features of Android P:

The new Adaptive battery feature learns how users use different applications and restrict battery use for lesser used applications. In an earlier version, the users get notified about the battery saver mode once the battery was down to 15 percent, and to connect the charger at 5 percent.

In the new version, the OS allows the users to activate battery saver when the battery is down to 70 percent.

Adaptive Brightness in the new OS uses machine learning to adjust the brightness according to user surroundings, once users have set up their preferences it can change the brightness level according to different lighting conditions.

App Actions is a new feature that uses AI to monitor user’s application usage and predicts the next step for them, connect your headphone, and it will pop up a slice of your favorite musical app.

Slices is a very useful feature that saves time, when you search something, it will show an interactive slice about the related app. When you search for a movie, it will open a slice about your movie booking app along with timings and prices.

ML Kit is mainly designed for developers creating new application for Android OS. By using this kit, developers can use Android’s machine learning API’s into their own applications.

The Dashboard will tell how much total time a user spends on their device and their usage of different apps. It might even send a warning if you have been using your phone for long hours.

App Timer is another feature with which user can limit screen time for different apps.

Do Not Disturb and Wind Down are new additions, do not disturb stops notifications and popups along with phone calls. Wind Down accordingly adjust light when its dark. If you have entered preferred bed timings the phone screen fades into greyscale and do not disturb is activated automatically.

New features have also been added to prevent accidental Screen Rotation, users can pin their screen by a simple tap on the screen.
