ValveShelf: Smart Shelf Automatically Makes Cocktails at Your Party

German Startup invents a smart shelf that automatically mixes cocktails.

Germany is mostly known for its excellent beer, but Germans also are into cocktails. A Bavarian startup has developed a smart shelf that automatically makes cocktails. You just need to select the drink you want in an app and place your glass inside the shelf.

The ValveShelf does the rest. Your glass moves on a transport band to the liquor or juice needed for your drink. The smart cocktail shelf is replacing a bartender and is fun to watch, making the ValveShelf ideal for parties.

This is also where the startup is currently focusing their business model. You can rent ValveShelves for parties. The rental fee is 59 Euro per day (~$70). The smart shelf companion app creates a shipping list for the liquor store based on the drinks you want to over for your guests. At the party, your guests just pick the drink they want and the automatic cocktail maker does the rest. Watch the ValveShelf in action below.

The ValveShelf team plans to add an ice maker to the shelf in an upcoming release. Right now you have to put ice in your glass yourself. The ValveShelf can not make all cocktails yet. Drinks that require stirring or shaking are not possible but could be eventually. The team behind Valveshelf are Computer Science students. They came up with the idea to make an automatic cocktail machine at a trip in Norway. On a dark and rainy night there was just nothing else today than to hack an app for making cocktails.

If you are in the near of Bavarian city Passau, you can rent a VavleShelf now at
