Atari VCS Raised over $1.6m in first 3 hours of IndieGoGo Crowdfunding

The new retro console from Atari is a hit.

Atari has landed a huge success with the new Atari VCS retro console. The pre-order volume exceeds $1.6 million already in the first three hours of the crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo. The Atari VCS console is up for pre-order since 9am ET at IndieGoGo. The initial demand has taken down IndieGoGo's site. Pre-ordering the Atari VCS is almost impossible due to page load errors in the first minutes.

My pre-order of the Atari VCS Collector's Edition just went through at 9:15am ET. I'm apparently not the only one believing in the new Atari VCS. Over 6,100 pre-orders have been filed in the first three hours. The $199 and $299 pre-order prices are only available for a week. If you want an Atari VCS, pre-order now, else its more expensive.

Atari revealed early this morning that there will be two Atari VCS versions available for pre-order. The Atari VCS Onyx is $199 for subscribers of the Atari VCS email list. This price is a 33% lower than the regular price.

The Atari VCS Collector's Edition with the wood front panel is priced at $299, exclusively available on Indiegogo. The Atari VCS Collector's Edition comes with a with a free Classic Joystick, making it the most desirable version of the Atari VCS.

Atari is selling the Atari VCS via an Indigogo crowdfunding campaign. The Atari VCS retro consoles are supposed to ship not this year, but somewhen in 2019.

What we know so far is that the Atari VCS runs on a custom AMD CPU and will be open. This means that you will be able to run other games than the ones Atari decides to bundle with the Atari VCS. You will be able to play Atari 2600 games as well as PC games on the console's open Linux OS platform.

The communicated price-range of the Atari VCS is between $250 and $300. There is quite the excitement about the very stylish new Atari VCS console. It will be interesting to see if Atari fans put their money where their mouth is on Wednesday on Indigogo.
