2018 3Doodler Create Plus Review

The new 3Doodler Pen is here and I tested it.

The 3Doodler Create+ launched today and a review unit of the 2018 3Doodler Create Plus just showed up at the office. I didn't have too much time to play with this 3D printing pen, but this is a good showcase on how your first 3D doodle will likely look like unless you are a natural.

I read through the quickstart guide and was up and running in less than 5 minutes with the new 3D Doodler pen. After plugging into a power socket, I switched the power button to ABS/FLX and waited for the blue LED to come on. This takes less than 30 seconds. Then I inserted a plastic strand and pushed the fast button for about 10 seconds. Make sure the strand is all the way inserted, so the motor can grab it and transport it through the heating segment.

Then the plastic started to flow out. The makers of 3Doodler recommend to first draw your name flat on a piece of paper or directly into the manual that provides an area for this.

I wrote I4U, as you can see the lines are wobbly. I need to get a feel for the speed the plastic comes out. That's the learning part. Then it was time to draw in air. First I made a little dot on the ground the size of a ladybug and then pull the pen up about 6 cm into the air. I pushed the fast button again to stop drawing. After holding it for few seconds the line stands by itself. Then I drew the other three lines for my first 3D pyramid doodle.

I definitely see the fun part in creating 3D Doodles. A 10-year-old girl who was just in the office by co-incident watched me do it, but was not sold on it. 3D Doodling is not for every kid. If your kids are into crafting and have patience, 3D Doodler is awesome. I will update this review tomorrow with 3D Doodles and feedback from my 7 and 9-year-old sons.

The 2018 3Doodler Create+ 3D Printing Pen Set with 75 Filaments (600 ft. of Extruded Plastic) are in stock and a deal on amazon.com. The four different 3Doodler Create+ bundles are on sale with a $10 discount for $69.99.
