Neutrinos are a physicist’s puzzle since now it is being revealed that such a thing as a sterile neutrino particle may exist as well. This is way beyond the expectations of the scientists.

Using a particle detector, these tiny particles alongside others such as antimatter and antineutrinos were surmised to exist. 20 years ago, such a rare sight was seen by physicists in the lab.

The researchers are busy speculating whether a sterile neutrino particle which has a ghost of a subatomic nature may show up in the future.

If such a subatomic particle were to be for real, it would be a big surprise for the science of physics. The very basis of this subject that deals with the outer world would be transformed in a radical manner.

Especially, the possibility of dark matter would gain ground via the discovery of a sterile neutrino particle. Dark matter has been a mystery so far since it is hypothesized to be an actuality whereas it can only be observed by its action and not by its substance.

This novel study was carried out in the confines of the MiniBooNE which is a neutrino detector. The last time such an occurrence took place was in the 90s and it took place at the Los Alamos Lab in New Mexico.

Excess neutrinos have also done a materializing act in the Fermilab approximately a decade and a half ago. The physicists are still perplexed by the excess signals from neutrinos.

While all this is proof enough, it could be a case of other particles besides neutrinos. Neutrinos are of three types and these can morph into one another.

The excess quantity is a pointer in the direction of the existence of a sterile neutrino particle. Such particles do not show any interaction and only show an affinity for that universal force called gravity.

Whatever the case, this is an exciting venture in particle physics. The existence of a sterile neutrino particle is something the scientists are hopeful about for the future.
