Dang! I geek out over a vacuum cleaner.

Chinese consumer electronics company Xiaomi entered the vacuum cleaner market with Roidmi. The first product, the Roidmi F8 Storm cordless vacuum cleaner has already sold in China, generating $2.8m in revenues. Now the Roidmi F8 Storm vacuum cleaner is also available for pre-order in the United States and other western markets starting at $289 on IndieGoGo. Chinese companies are just in love with selling new products first on a crowdfunding form. The Roidmi F8 is already in production. Xiaomi does not need Indiegogo to raise money for the product.

The Roidmi F8 is lightweight and an ultra-silence vacuum cleaner with up to 55 minutes of cleaning time. The company compares its new vacuum cleaner with the Dyson V8, with a lower price. Battery power vacuum cleaners have a bad reputation. The suction power is too low and the batteries do not last long enough.

Because of that, I was skeptical about the Roidmi F8 Storm. The unboxing already triggered my geek senses. This vacuum cleaner has a great design and marvelous build quality. When Apple would make a vacuum cleaner, it would look like the Roidmi F8 Storm. The company has won a Red Dot and IF design award this year for this vacuum cleaner. The awards are well deserved as every part has a clean design and clever design.

Powered by a 100,000 rpm brushless DC motor the Roidmi F8 Storm generates super strong suction power. It's engineered to capture ingrained dirt and mess from carpets, crevices in the floor, and even mattresses. The digital motor generates up to 18,5KPa centrifugal air pressure, effectively removes the dust on the ground.

The high-performance Samsung lithium battery provides up to 55 minutes of powerful suction while in standard mode, covering an estimated area of 350 square meters (3800 square feet). The battery can last up to 10 minutes while the vacuum is in max mode.

The Roidmi F8 Storm has a built-in DC motor in the brush head driving the brush. This has the nice effect that the Roidmi pulls when you vacuum, making it much easier to move around. The 3D joint on the brush is incredible. The brush is moving in any direction without any resistance. In the video below you can see the Roidmi F8 Storm in action. There is also a comparison between my regular cord vacuum cleaner from Philipps. The Roidmi F8 Storm actually outperforms the old school vacuum as the motor brush is better in picking up dirt.

The Roidmi F8 looks so good that you want to mount it somewhere in the house where you can see it and not hide in a closet. Roidmi bundles a magnetic bracket for wall installation.

Other neat geeky features include the LED light on the brush that turns on automatically. To top things off, the Roidmi F8 Storm is app connected. With the Roidmi app you can check the charging level of your vacuum in real time.

The Roidmi F8 can also be converted into a small hand vacuum, ideal for cleaning the car. I'm totally sold on the Roidmi F8 Storm vacuum cleaner. It's a delight to use, incredible design and its powerful enough clean my flat. The wired vacuum cleaner era has ended with the Roidmi F8 Storm.

The only downside is the small sized dirt container. This will get full quickly if you have a house to clean. The Roidmi F8 Storm vacuum cleaner will ship in August. Find out more on the Roidmi Indiegogo page.
