Huawei Flat Bezeless 6.9-inch OLED Smartphone To Flip off iPhone X

New patents show how Huawei plans to make a flat smartphone without bezels.

All screen smartphone is the next big target in the smartphone segment. The marketing messages are already selling the current phones as all screen, but that's not entirely true. Huawei might be closer than others in releasing a giant 6.9-inch flat smartphone with basically now edges.

I still get a chuckle out of every time I see a smartphone copy Apple's iPhone X notch. The notch is a typical design compromise. Nothing to be proud of. Nothing worth copying. Apple could not find another way to place the front sensors. Don't expect the notch to stay around - I'm pretty sure, Steve Jobs would not have allowed it.

Huawei is reportedly releasing this fall a new 6.9-inch OLED smartphone, possibly in the Mate series. In newly surfaced patents, a new way of making a bezeless smartphone is described.

Current smartphone frame tech does not allow for completely disappearing bezels. Huawei invented an alternative. No regular frame is used on the sides of the smartphone, but metal strips are glued to the housing using double-sided tape or dispensing glue. The device would still waterproof, dust-proof and anti-static.

The screen of the mystery Huawei smartphone has a recessed structure on both the top and bottom. As a result, the screen is clamped inside the housing and thus no unnecessary pressure is exerted on the sides. A very narrow bezel remains on the top and bottom of the device. The patents can be seen on Dutch tech site LetsGoDigital.
