  • Paleontologists name Fossil of Ancient Marine Species after Former President Obama

Names of two recently discovered Ediacaran era fossil animals honor President Barack Obama and Sir David Attenborough

The creature survived in the waterways of the planet some 500 million years ago and it has been named after former POTUS Barack Obama. Termed the Obamus coronatus, the epithet is meant to honor Obama’s interest and curiosity in the sciences.

The second part of the title “coronatus” means “he who wears a crown on his head”. It is basically a small, oval animal that is only half an inch when seen lengthwise.

Also, it has prominent spiral ridges on its skin. This creature spent its entire existence partially buried in the ocean bed. This animal named after Obama probably never moved an inch to the right or left.

There was also another small critter whose fossil was discovered alongside the Obamus coronatus named after POTUS Obama. This one was named after Sir David Attenborough.

This individual was famous for his passion for scientific thought and he also bolstered paleontology. The creature was ovoid and probably shaped like a sultana.

Termed the Attenborites janeae, it owes its second part to Jane Fargher, whose property its fossil was found on. Both creatures, one named after Obama and the other after Sir David Attenborough, are some of the earliest forms of marine life to have left their imprints on the earth.

They were found in fossil deposits in a mountainous region in the southern part of Australia, the creatures named after Obama and Sir David.

One of the paleontologists claimed that while she had worked in the loci for approximately three decades, she had never gazed at such a rare cornucopia of species preserved intact in fossilized form.

The bunch of paleontologists named the area Alice’s Restaurant Bed. This seeks its inspiration from Arlo Guthrie’s music and the words contained in it.

The body types that these two new species display in their physiology are completely novel. While the proof for such creatures, named after Obama and Sir David, has been with us for a long time, now it has been corroborated in reality.

UC Riverside-led team of researchers discovered these two new animal fossils. The discovery of Obamus coronatus got published online June 14 in the Australian Journal of Earth Sciences, or AJES, and the Attenborites janeae paper is forthcoming in the same journal.
