500 Million Limited Edition PS4 Pro Serial Number: Hype, Reseller Value and More

The new limited edition Sony PlayStation 4 Pro console is numbered.

The 500 Million Limited Edition PS4 Pro Sale was an intense event on Friday that left many Sony fans disappointed. The demand for the limited number of translucent blue PS4 Pro consoles was breathtaking.

Update: Sept. 1: You can win a free 500 Million Limited Edition PS4 Pro.

Update August 31: GameStop is selling the 500 Million Limited Edition Sony PS4 Pro again as a bundle.

Scoring a 500 Million Limited Edition PS4 Pro on GameStop and Amazon was doable, hundreds of users of The Tracker App did get one. Walmart was impossible as the inventory sold out in seconds. For Best Buy and Target you had to be on the stores' shopping apps to get a chance to buy. The consoles never showed up in stock on Target's and Best Buy's online shop.

Now you can find the only reseller offers for the 500 Million Limited Edition Sony PS4 Pro on eBay or amazon.com. Prices range from $900 to crazy $5,000.

The shipping of the 500 Million Limited Editions Sony PS4 Pro consoles is still underway. People in areas with Saturday delivery should receive their console as early as today.

So far the limited edition offers on eBay and Amazon are not highlighting the serial numbers. The reason for this is that you need to have the console in hand to check the copper plate on the front of the PS4 Pro. We have not been able to find an alternative method to find out the serial number. As far as we could see in unboxing videos, the serial number is not printed on the box. If you know how to check the serial number of the 500 Million Limited Edition PS4 Pro without opening the box, please post it in the comments below.

We now also confirmed with an owner of a 500 Million Limited Edition PS4 Pro that you would have to open the box to find out the serial number. This is not a good solution for collectors. Many pro collectors prefer mint condition items. Opening the blue box is already a violation of the mint condition.

Sony itself started the potential collector's hype around the serial numbers of the available 50,000 units. The Japanese company highlights the serial numbers 09995 (U.S. Launch Date of the original PlayStation – September 9th, 1995), 01115 (U.S. launch date of PS4 – November 15, 2013) and 01013 (U.S. launch date of PS VR – October 13, 2016). If on the commemorative copper plate on your 500 Million Limited Edition PS4 Pro shines one of these three numbers, you can make a fortune reselling the console.

Besides these serial numbers that represent launch dates, we also expect that limited edition Sony PS4 Pro consoles with special numbers also will be more valuable to collectors. Serial numbers 1, 10, 100, 500, 666, 1000, 5000,10000, and 50,000 are prime examples of consoles that will have a higher value. Also, numbers like 11111 or 12345 should do well on the collector's market.

We anticipate that the serial number will become a hot topic starting on Monday when most of the ordered consoles will be delivered. So far the prices on eBay and Amazon are not including any premiums for the serial number.

Features of the 500 Million PlayStation 4 Pro system include a 2TB hard-drive, special translucent blue design, translucent blue wireless controller, special PlayStation Camera, special Vertical Stand, special, Mono headset, AC power cord, HDMI cable and USB cable.
