Scanmarker Air Review: This Digital Highlighter Is Great for Research or Learning a Language

This marker captures text and transmits it to your iPhone or PC.

This marker does not highlight the words you find important in a book but digitizes them, so you can use them right away for your work. The Scanmarker Air is a small scanner that transmits the scanned words via Bluetooth to a paired smartphone or PC. Capturing text is easy. I just need to put the marker down on the book and move it over the text line. The scanned text appears right away in the Scanmarker apps.

The app also can automatically translate the scanned text into 40 languages, making the Scanmarker a great helper for learning a new language. You can just scan the word you don't know and see immediately the translation. The integrated text-to-speech function can read the text back to you whilst scanning. This works also in the translation mode with select languages. This way you can even hear the correct pronunciations of scanned words.

Scanning works fast once you get the right pace. The Scanmarker wants you to move rather quickly and fluid over the text you want to scan. The app will tell you in case you move to slow or too fast.

To switch the digital marker on, I just press it for 3 seconds down. To switch it off, I just do a triple click. The auto-off kicks in after 12 minutes. The Scanmarker can also scan barcodes and images. You just need to change the scan type in the desktop software. To see the ScanMarker Air in action, watch my video review of this productivity gadget below.

My 9-year-old son suggested adding a highlighter to the Scanmarker Air. This way you can not only digitize the words but also mark them up. Something to think about for the inventors of the Scanmarker. The ScanMarker is a great productivity tool that is fun to use. It's also a great tool to learn a new language. The Scanmarker Air sells for $99 at the scanMarker site and ships worldwide.

Scanmarker does not use mechanical components such as wheels and tooth-wheels to measure scanning speed. Instead, the printed text is scanned and captured as a raw image. That image is then sent for recognition by the OCR software.
