iPhone Xs Max Feels Small if You Owned an iPhone Plus

The iPhone Xs Max is here. The size of it is subjective.

I received my iPhone Xs Max on Friday in the mail, sent from my carrier. Over the past two years, I owned an iPhone 7 Plus. The iPhone Xs Max is going to be a major upgrade in terms of performance for me. For some reason, my mind was preset thinking that the iPhone Xs Max would be huge. The opposite is the case.

My initial reaction to the iPhone Xs Max is that it feels smaller than my iPhone 7 Plus. Let's look at the hard numbers. The iPhone Xs Max measures 157.5 x 77.4 x 7.7 mm (6.2x3.05x0.30 inch) and the iPhone 7 Plus measurements are 158.2x 77.9 x 7.3mm (6.23x3.07x0.29 inch). My feeling is supported by the cold numbers. The iPhone Xs Max is 0.7mm shorter and 0.2mm less wide. It only got thicker by 0.4mm and is 20g heavier.

While the measurements are smaller, the screen of the iPhone Xs Max is dramatically bigger. Instead of a 5.5-inch screen, you get a 6.5-inch screen on the iPhone Xs Max. How this 1-inch bigger screen will change my daily iPhone experience remains to be seen.

What is important here is that if you are an iPhone Plus owner, your only upgrade path is the iPhone Xs Max. The iPhone Xs is tiny compared to an iPhone Plus device despite offering a larger screen with 5.8-inch. Watch a short hands-on video showing the iPhone Xs Max and the iPhone 7 Plus side-by-side.

The iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max are released since September 21. You can find a round-up of available iPhone Xs deals in this shopping guide. Also, make sure to protect your new iPhone Xs device with cases and screen protectors.
