Porsche Kills Diesel Cars

German car maker stops making cars with Diesel engines.

Porsche ends its 10-year-long Diesel stint. Diesel only came to Porsche because of the success the company had with its SUVs Cayenne and Macan. Because of the enormous scandal around Diesel engines, Porsche is doing what most other car brands can't afford, they remove the Diesel engines from their model offering.

Oliver Blume, Porsche's boss, told the Bild Zeitung (Paywall) in a lengthy interview that Porsche stops making cars with Diesel engines. The sports car maker focuses on its core competencies and the future. Porsche never developed Diesel engines, but have decades of experience innovating petrol engines. Besides petrol engines, Porsche is betting on the electric car revolution with the 2019 Taycan.

Blume has no concerns about the missing sound in the Taycan. The Porsche emotions are supposed to come from the driving performance of the first all-electric Porsche sports car.

Porsche already stopped taking Diesel car orders in February. Most customers switched to petrol or Porsche's hybrid models. Because of the low churn, Porsche made the definite decision to not offer any Diesel Porsche in the future.
