Oculus Quest All-in-One 6DOF VR Headset Misses Holiday Shopping Season

Facebook announces Oculus Quest.

When a company makes a product announcement in Fall, consumers can usually buy that product in time for the Holidays. This is not the case with the new Oculus Quest virtual reality headset. Mark Zuckerberg announced that the new Oculus Quest will launch in Spring 2019 for $399.

The Quest is offering six degrees of freedom and Touch controllers. The controllers set it apart from the Lenovo Mirage VR headset on sale now. Oculus Quest allows like the Oculus Go to engage in VR without a PC. There arr no wires and no external sensors.

Facebook will have over 50 titles lined up for launch, with even more in the works including some of your favorite Rift games like Robo Recall, The Climb, and Moss.

Oculus Insight powers inside-out tracking, Guardian, and Touch controller tracking. This new system uses four ultra wide-angle sensors and computer vision algorithms to track your exact position in real time without any external sensors. Insight gives you a greater sense of immersion, presence, and mobility, plus the ability to go beyond room-scale. Facebook brought Guardian from the Rift to the Quest to help keep you safer while in VR.

The 64GB Oculus Quest includes the same optics as Oculus Go with a display resolution of 1600x1440 per eye, while incorporating a lens spacing adjustment to help maximize visual comfort. Facebook improved the built-in audio, so you get high-quality, immersive sound with even deeper bass.

The Oculus Go, launched earlier this year, is the best-selling VR headset on amazon.com. It's the perfect VR headset for casual virtual reality use, starting at $199.

It's disappointing that Facebook misses the Holidays 2018 with the Oculus Quest and consumers have to wait until Spring 2019 for it. The Oculus Quest would have made a formidable Holiday 2018 tech gift. We can though still highly recommend the more affordable Oculus Go as Holiday tech gift. The Oculus Go is in stock at Amazon in both storage configurations.

If VR is not your thing, don't miss the hot new Nintendo Switch console bundles. You can preorder the $299.99 Nintendo Switch Fortnite Double Helix Bundle at amazon.com and GameStop.com. The customized Nintendo Switch Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee Bundles and the Super Smash Bros. Nintendo Switch Bundle are also available for pre-order.
