Bits & Pretzels 2018: A 3-Day Startup Festival with Built-in Oktoberfest

Popular Bavarian Founders Festival kicks off Sunday.

The Bits & Pretzels 2018 starts off today with a keynote by Tarana Burke, the famous founder of the #MeToo Movement as a keynote speaker.

Tarana Burke is among those recognized as Time’s Person of the Year 2017: The Silence Breakers. Time recognized the women and men who have publicly spoken out about and taken action against sexual harassment and assault. Why is a German startup and founders event makes the #meToo movement a focus? Because of the event's history with Kevin Spacey. The fallen actor appeared on stage in 2016 at the Bits & Pretzels, and was about to join the event organizers last year, but then Spacey's past caught up with him.

The agenda after Tarana Burke's speech looks more like other that of other startup conferences. Speakers including business leaders like Hannes Ametsreiter (Vodafone Germany) and celebrities including German comedian and TV host Jan Boehmermann and Formula One champion Nico Rosberg. The presentations also include technology and business tracks from Google, Volkswagen, KPMG, Audi and many more.
Besides talks, a major part of Bits & Pretzels 2018 is networking. Besides a guided speed dating area, there is a big after-show party tonight and the finale on Tuesday morning in an Octoberfest tent. The 5,000 attendees of Bits & Pretzels will descend onto the famous Munich Oktoberfest and almost fill up a whole tent. Gathering around table captains, the Bits & Pretzels Oktoberfest event is making this startup festival unique around the world.
