Why Chris Evans Retiring as Captain America?

Chris Evans Tweets About his Retirement from Playing Captain America

Chris Evan tweeted about his last day about filming for the fourth Avengers movie and his retirement from playing the iconic Captain America role and people are emotional

“I am Steve Rogers”- Steve Rogers, Avengers: Infinity War.

It’s become a household name or as we know him, Captain America, the first Avenger, the selfless soldier, the superhero we can all root for and do not forget to mind your language around him.

Before the 2011 movie for the Captain America by Marvel Cinematic Universe, he was mostly known by comic book fans. Introducing such an iconic character needed an actor who could carry the weight of the performance as well as live up to the expectations of the fans. Even with a somewhat okay record playing a superhero in the Fantastic Four franchise by Tim Story, Chris Evans jumped in to play the role of Steve Rogers aka Captain America.

Evans character starts off as a skinny yet selfless soldier in Captain America: The First Avenger. He enlists in the U.S. Army hoping to fight in the World War II. His body does not work for his seniors but he is picked by Dr. Abraham Erskine for a ‘super-soldier’ experiment. He is injected with a serum that makes him into a taller and muscular hero that soon becomes the face of the American movement against the Nazi army force, Hydra and its leader Johann Schmidt aka Red Skull.

Steve not only defeats the evil enemy but sacrifices himself to protect innocent people. He wakes up 70 years later in the present-day world without getting old or weak. Since then, we have witnessed Captain America join the Avengers, fight against Nazi forces, aliens, evil clones and robots and in a man to man fight against Thanos.

Over the past eight years, Chris Evans has become the face of Captain America. He is known around the world as the valiant and noble, shield carrying soldier who has saved the world time and again. He has even put up a fight against his friends and allies to do what he believes in.

In the Iron Man vs. Captain America campaign, most people sided with Captain America just because he would not stand for anything wrong. The credit is due to Chris Evans became such a believable superhero because he dedicated himself to playing the role.

Who could forget his ripped body in Captain America: The First Avenger, his amazing motorcycle jacket from Captain America: The Winter Soldier, his leadership skill in Avengers, his potential to yield the Mjolnir in Avengers: Age of Ultron or his massive biceps in Captain America: Civil War. I don’t know about you but as soon as he walked out on that station in Avengers: Infinity War; I was screaming with excitement with the crowd and I was also among the relieved fans when he did not fade away when Thanos snapped his fingers. It meant that we would get to see the Chris Evans as Captain America in the next unnamed Avengers movie as well.

What I did not think about was that the next movie might be Chris Evan’s last in the MCU. Hear me out on this people. Chris has said many times while giving red carpet interviews, talking at movie promotion events and attending multiple Comic Con events, that he will not always be playing the role of Captain America. He said that he would rather get off in time rather than being pushed off the train.

While many of us believed that that day might be far from coming, it seems it may have finally arrived. Out of nowhere, Chris Evans tweeted this, “Officially wrapped on Avengers 4. It was an emotional day, to say the least. Playing this role over the last 8 years has been an honor. To everyone in front of the camera, behind the camera, and in the audience, thank you for the memories! Eternally grateful.”

What! NO!!! I know. That’s what I said too. Apparently, that’s how everyone feels. Everyone low-key knew that Chris might be among the actors who were not getting their contracts renewed after the Phase III of Marvel Cinematic Universe. Even then, the fans wanted Chris Evans to be among those who were put on a retainer. Chris’ tweet shows that he might be playing Captain America for the last time. Our heart is breaking.

Thousands of tweets poured out from his fans, his colleagues and admirers from all over the world. Leading the pack was Deadpool actor, Ryan Reynolds. He tweeted, “I’m not crying. I’m weeping. There’s a difference.” We know Ryan, we feel you.

Dwayne Johnson had words of appreciation for Chris in his tweet, “What a run you had brother. Congrats on breathing life into such an iconic character. Keep on keepin’ on” Dwayne knows how much work it takes to become a successful screen presence who is good all-around.

Even former One Direction star, Liam Payne tweeted about Chris’ tweet, “Ok I know I should be concentrating on my song right now but I’m so sad that @ChrisEvans isn’t playing captain America anymore”.

The fans are also tweeting photos of Chris as Captain America and writing messages about being sad about Chris leaving the MCU and, fearing that they might have to witness Steve Rogers’ death in the next installment. The truth shall be revealed when the next Avengers releases which is set to happen next year.

In the meanwhile, Chris Evans’ fans are also wondering what he might be doing next in his career. He has already starred in the movie “Gifted” with McKenna Grace, Lindsey Duncan, Octavia Spencer, and Jenny Slate. Chris has also discussed that he is interested in going behind the camera.

Chris’s announcement also makes us realize that he is among other stars from MCU who will be leaving the franchise after the next Avengers movie. Among those actors are some other fan favorites including the Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Hemsworth.

For now, we are still getting over the shock that Chris Evans has said goodbye to Captain America.
