How Game of Thrones Fans Can have Fun While Waiting for Season 9

Game of Thrones is one of the most popular television shows on the planet. The show is watched by millions around the world and its audience just keeps getting bigger. In 2016, 8.9 million people watched the series finale of the HBO fantasy show and the year before that, 8.1 million people tuned in to the series finale broadcast, which is a 10% increase in viewership.

While that's great news for HBO, it means that there are more people than ever who are sat idly waiting for the show to return when season nine is finally broadcast in 2019. If you're among those millions, you don't need to sit around twiddling your thumbs though, as there are more ways than ever to show off your enthusiasm for the show.

Play Telltale's Game of Thrones

Although Telltale Games, unfortunately, laid off most of its staff recently, making another season of its Game of Thrones game unlikely, its interactive, episodic take on the fantasy series is still worth checking out. Consisting of six episodes, the game follows five different playable characters of the House Forrester, who are the rulers of Iron Wrath, and find themselves on the losing side of the War of the Five Kings. While the game follows a family that most may not be familiar with, it also stars some major names from the TV series including Jon Snow, Cersei Lannister, Margaery Tyrell, and Daenerys Targaryen.

Reimagine the Series

If you're fed up of waiting for HBO to broadcast the new season and don't feel like waiting for author George R.R Martin to expand the series' canon, why not reimagine Game of Thrones for yourself? And we're not just talking fan fiction, where Khal Drogo and Daenerys are a couple of modern-day hipsters; we're talking about full reimaginings that consider what could have happened if the cast, the plot, and even the setting looked substantially different. has already taken this suggestion and has run with it, showing off what Game of Thrones would look like if the show had a total Canadian makeover. What would it look like if it had an all-Canadian cast and was filmed in locations such as the Yoho National Park instead of the forests of Northern Ireland? It may seem a little odd but as far as hiatus entertainment goes, you can't beat it.

Collect Game of Thrones Merchandise

In 2018, collecting figurines isn't just a preteen pastime; it's something that adults do now too. Because of its popularity, there is a huge amount of Game of Thrones merchandise, with much of it being officially licensed too. This includes its very own line of Funko Pops, with some of the rarest collectables potentially taking ages to find and costing collectors thousands of dollars. There are even replica pieces of armor, bottle openers, and cookbooks just in case you want to eat just as the fantasy characters do!

Even once Game of Thrones season nine has concluded, these suggestions will still work. After all, most fans will then begin waiting for the HBO prequel series that was recently greenlit. Prepare to be patient, Thrones fans.
