PlayStation Classic Is Not a NES Classic Success?

Is Sony's retro console not catching on?

Sony surprised its huge gaming community with the announcement of the $99.99 PlayStation Classic on September 20. The retro console pre-loaded with 20 PlayStation games is available for pre-order now about a month. Sony's version of Nintendo's NES Classic has not sold out and you can still pre-order the small PlayStation online at gamestop.com and other retailers.

At this point, it does not look like that the PlayStation Classic will become a hot Holiday gift that everybody absolutely wants to have as the NES Classic was two years ago or the SNES Classic last year. Is the emotional bond between gamers and the PlayStation games they played in their youth not as strong as in the Nintendo camp?

Some PlayStation gamers still waiting for the complete list of PlayStation Classic games that Sony is still keeping a secret to making a decision on the PlayStation Classic purchase.

The rather late December 3rd release of the PlayStation Classic is leaving much time for a build-up of demand based on word of mouth recommendations. Often products become trending once consumers have it in their hands and start evangelizing them. If the demand is not catching on, then retailers will start to offer deals on the PlayStation Classic in the three weeks before Christmas.

Right now there is a big question mark on the PlayStation Classic about its sales potential this Holiday season. Nintendo fans still hope that the Mario company comes through with a third retro console release this Holiday season. The N64 Classic could completely wipe the PlayStation Classic to the sidelines if it will be released. Recently leaked alleged N64 Classic images have fueled the hope that Nintendo will release a retro console the third year in a row.
