Blackloud Soundot AF1 FM Radio Tuner Headset for iPhone Review

The Blackloud Soundot AF1 headset has a built-in FM tuner.

Analog radio is one of the most robust communication technologies out there. Apple has an FM chip in the iPhone, but it's not active. Now you can listen to FM radio on your iPhone without a cellular or Wi-fi connection using the Blackloud Soundot AF1 headset.

These headphones have a full FM Receiver with RDS built-in. Via the Sounddot app, I can tune in on the locally available radio station. This works very straightforward. After plugging the headset into the lightning port, the app recognizes the headset and I start to hear white noise. Tapping on the tuner button and the app selects the next available radio station in the frequency band automatically.

The sound quality is decent and can be adjusted through a 6-band equalizer and 3D sound effects in the app to your taste. The build quality of the Blackloud Soundot AF1 is solid and the earbuds are comfortable and sit safely in my ear. The headset comes with different size rubber ear tips to adjust the fit.

With the Blackloud Soundot AF1 headset you finally get access to FM radio on the iPhone without an internet connection. This can be great in an emergency situation when the mobile network fails or if you live in an area with bad coverage. It's also great for venturing into the outdoors where mobile phone coverage can be scarce.

The Blackloud Soundot AF1 FM Radio Tuner Headset is on sale right now at for $59.97, instead of $79.89.

An Android version with USB Type C connector is planned for 2019. Get the latest updates on the Blackloud site.
