Lucas the Spider Plushie Review: How to Make it Talk and Everything Else You need to Know

The limited edition Lucas the Spider Plushie is finally here.

Animated Youtube sensation Lucas the Spider started to steal our hearts in 2017. The Lucas the Spider channel has now over 2.6 million subscribers and over 165 million views on Youtube. In May of this year, Joshua Slice creator of Lucas announced a talking Plushie toy.

The Lucas the Spider Plush toy was available for 30 days on Teespring priced at $20. Initially, it was supposed to ship in October. The pre-orders exceeded all expectations and the manufacturing partners apparently struggled to meet the demand in time.

The Lucas the Spider Plushie sold 40,000 units in the first 10 days of the pre-sale. It's not known how many plushies have sold overall. The quality of the Lucas the Spider plush toy is not that great. The legs are all over the place and the fur feels cheap. The biggest issue is the talking feature. The sound of the plushie is low quality and behaves erratically.

To make Lucas the Spider Plushie say something you need to squeeze the toy where you feel something hard inside its belly. You need to squeeze it from the top and the bottom. At first, it only said "Hi" and the stopped. After a couple squeezes Lucas said: "Hi, my name is Lucas." You can tell it is the original voice of Lucas the Spider, but the sound quality is very low.

After a while, the spider starts to say other sentences. The randomizer in this sound module is definitely acting weird. You can here signature sentences like "I have too many eyeballs."

We have seen several reports from Lucas the Spider Plushie owners that can't get any sound out of the toy. Seems I got lucky with this unit as it at least works somehow. Watch the video below to hear the Lucas the Spider Plushie talk.

If you can't get your plushie to work, you should try to contact Teespring support. There is a seam on the bottom that you could theoretically open and check the batteries on the sound unit. You need to be able to sew it back together. To me, that appears not to be worth the effort.

I recommend to rather get a WowWee Fingerlings Hugs as a Holiday plush toy gift than Lucas the Spider Plushie. It's anyway not available anymore unless you want to pay up to $300 on eBay for one.
