CES 2019: The Big Wearable Trends

The CES will be the stage again for new innovations in wearables.

Author Dan Brown gave his hero Langdon a wearable bone-conducting headset with access to an AI assistant named Winston in his 2017 novel Origin. While we have the wearable technologies, the AI assistant like Alexa and Google Assistant are not as capable as Winston yet. Despite this, AI in wearables is a huge trend that eventually will lead to a life with a personal assistant that is always here for you.

The voice assistant advancements make also Hearables more relevant again. Apple might be taking Hearables to the mass market with the rumored releases of the AirPod 2, possibly in 2019.

CES will reveal many new wearables in the Healthcare sector. Wearables will help with treatments, management of chronic diseases and diagnostics. They are not stopping at the outside of the body, but will also go under the skin and further inside our bodies.

The Apple Watch leads the way to the universal wearable. Smartwatches will become more capable and cheaper. The single function wearable is getting pushed to niche applications. The Apple Watch 4 with its ECG feature has opened the door to healthcare functionality in smartwatches. Other smartwatch makers and the healthcare industry will follow.

New innovations in Augmented Reality will eventually give wearables another interface to interact with wearers. At last year's CES the Vuzix Blade AR glasses with Alexa were big news. The next days will shed more light on which new wearable trends will emerge at the big CES 2019. The Wearable industry members meet at the Wearable Tech Summit at the CES.

At the CES 2019, wearables compete with many other technologies. A few weeks later is a much more focused conference and expo in Germany that is only about wearables and related technologies. The Wearable Technologies 2019 Europe will kick off Feb. 3, 2019. I4U News readers get a 20% discount on tickets for the WT Wearable Technologies Conference 2019 with code WT_i4u.

CES 2019 will run January 8-11, 2019, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The show is the world’s largest and most influential technology event, featuring 4,500 exhibitors across 2.75 million net square feet of exhibit space.
