CES 2019: IAV To Present Side Window Entertainment In Cars Technology

New technology turns side window into an interactive screen.

Car technology has become a big topic at the CES. There will be again many big car brands and major automotive suppliers at the CES 2019 showing off their new innovations. German IAV, for instance, will demonstrate Side Window Entertainment.

With Side Window Entertainment, passengers will soon be able to enjoy brand new types of entertainment. When looking outside, windows equipped with intelligent augmented reality technology will offer relevant information on nearby points of interest.

Using the augmented window will turn zooming in and taking screenshots into child’s play, letting passengers recall impressions even after the journey is over, and serve as helpful reminders. In addition to digitally enhanced sightseeing, Side Window Entertainment also offers numerous interactive features based on their location. For example, passengers can easily make a reservation driving past a restaurant or arrange appointments like their next haircut or doctor’s visit directly on the window.

Kids will be able to watch videos and play games on their side screen. When and if this technology becomes a feature you can tick off when buying a new car remains to be seen. With the prospect of self-driving cars, the interior of cars is changing into an interactive media consumption environment.

IAV Group has over 7,000 employees and provides engineering services to car makers and suppliers. Volkswagen Group owns 50% of IAV.
