Samsung Rollable TV Patent Surfaces ahead of CES 2019

A new patent details a new rollable TV design.

Samsung invented a rollable TV design for a Television with a stand. In contrast to LG's rollable OLED TV, Samsung's rollable TV rolls up on both sides. When rolled up this Samsung TV is just a small box. This design makes big screen TVs easy to transport and use less space when they are not in use.

The rolling out is sure also a very theatrical effect. LG already showed its rollable OLED TV as a concept at the CES last year and is expected to start selling it in 2019. The timing of the Samsung patent, which got published on Dec. 25, is very close to CES 2019. It could mean that Samsung is ready to show off a rollable TV at least as a prototype. You can see the full patent on LetsGoDigital.

2019 could be the year of rolling and folding displays in devices such as smartphones and TVs. Flexible displays have been around for years, but in 2019 we finally can buy products that feature them.

The CES 2019 will take place January 8-11, 2019, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The show is the world’s largest and most influential technology event, featuring 4,500 exhibitors across 2.75 million net square feet of exhibit space. The hottest trends of CES 2019 include 5G connectivity, artificial intelligence, machine learning, augmented and virtual reality, mobility, smart home, smart cities, sports tech and more. Most of the CES 2019 announcements will be released ahead of the show in late December and early January. The next wave of news comes during the CES media days on January 6-7, when news conferences and keynotes are scheduled. Read the latest CES 2019 News.
