Winter adventures have changed a lot since we've started incorporating technology into our winter gear. These gadgets are just a sample of the fantastic new winter gear that's currently available and some that will be emerging into the market soon.

No one likes to be cold, but that doesn't stop anyone from heading outdoors during the winter months to enjoy the snowy landscape. Technology has improved most aspects of our lives, from communication to medicine and everything in between, so it was only a matter of time before it started to change winter gear. How is technology improving winter gear?

Upgraded Outerwear

Gore-Tex was the go-to brand in the 1970s when they first introduced outerwear that was both breathable and waterproof. While Gore-Tex-brand winter gear is still a fantastic choice, technology is starting to change how we look at outerwear.

One textile startup, Voormi, is working on producing a material that could be a game-changer for winter gear. It takes the lightweight, breathable material that Gore-Tex offered to the next level, providing waterproof insulation in a single layer. It could potentially turn the winter clothing industry on its ear by eliminating the need for bulky outer garments when you're enjoying the winter landscape.

Ventilated Ski Masks

The worst thing about winter weather isn't the cold. It's how dry the air is, which can lead to nose bleeds, chapped lips and dry skin even if you're bundled up. Cold Avenger has come up with a solution — a ski mask that covers your ears, face and neck and also has a medical-grade ventilator that automatically humidifies the air you're breathing in. The fleece is both water- and cold-resistant and wicks any exhaled moisture away from the skin to keep you dry no matter how heavily you're breathing.

Heated Gear

Sometimes your body heat isn't enough to keep you warm when there's snow falling, but thanks to advances in winter gear technology, it doesn't have to be. As its name suggests, heated gear uses battery power to keep you warm in even the coldest environments. The lithium batteries included in this gear are designed to hold a charge even if they get cold. Some cells will start to discharge as soon as the temperature drops below a certain point, making them useless during winter weather.

Winter-Proof Smart Phones

There's nothing worse than dropping your phone in the snow or an icy puddle and scrambling for a bag of rice to try to save your tech. What can you do?

The Cat B15Q is probably the most durable smartphone on the market, with a few features that make it perfect for your outdoor adventures. You can drop it in water for up to 30 minutes, and it will work in temperatures as low as -4 degrees Fahrenheit. It can also withstand a 6-foot drop without damage, but other than that, it's just a standard Android smartphone, making it the perfect piece of tech to bring with you the next time you head out into the snow.

Winter adventures have changed a lot since we've started incorporating technology into our winter gear. These gadgets are just a sample of the fantastic new winter gear that's currently available and some that will be emerging into the market soon. Just because you're going out to play in the snow doesn't mean you have to leave your toys at home!
