ToysRUs Stores to Make Comeback Through Tru Kids Brands

Former ToysRUs employees bring back ToysRUs in the US.

ToysRUs stores might once again pop up in your city. Former ToysRUs employees formed a new company called Tru Kids Brands that owns the ToysRUs, BabyRUs names as well as toy brands Imaginarium, Koala Baby, Fastlane, and Journey Girls.

Tru Kids started to work on the new ToysRUs in January. Former chief merchandising officer of ToysRUs, Richard Barry is the new president of Tru Kids. The company is headquartered in Parsippanny, New Jersey.

"The U.S. is the biggest toy market in the world," said Richard Barry to CNBC. "Fundamentally, this is the place where the business began with Charles Lazarus." The ToysRUs founder died at age 94 last year.

How ToysRUs is coming back is still in the works. They can't just do what they did before. Expect smaller stores or store-in-store setups. With smaller stores, the ToysRUs Wow effect for kids will be difficult to recreate. Walmart, Target, and Amazon had a year to grab the toy shoppers ToysRUs has left behind. They battled mostly over cutting prices. In addition, toy prices have been falling in the past years considerably, leaving less room for margins.

We assume ToysRUs will be back in some form this Holiday season. Read about the latest new toys for 2019 in our toys section.
