The Top Innovative Trends Within the Automotive Industry

Some of us who are old enough might still be able to remember when powered car windows first entered into the marketplace or when GPS was initially introduced to vehicles during the latter half of the 1990's. In truth, innovative thinkers have transformed the entire automotive sector and this pace only seems to be increasing. This is why it is always interesting to take a look at some of the most futuristic concepts that modern cars have to offer as well as how they are able to benefit the average driver. The information found below could very well surprise you!

There will soon come a day when the concept of the traditional dashboard is relegated to history books. Many cars are now employing smart touchscreens within their controls. There are several benefits to this approach. Not only can these screens be preset to particular preferences (such as temperature or volume controls), but they can be locked when not in use. Unauthorized personnel will, therefore, be prevented from starting the vehicle.

Augmented Reality

In terms of passenger entertainment, augmented reality (AR) is set to make massive technological waves in the near future. Some developers are already starting to design "smart" windows which can double as personal entertainment systems. The key takeaway point here is that they will also sense the location of the vehicle in relation to the exterior environment. These screens can, therefore, provide useful tourist information such as how to find the nearest public transportation hub or what landmarks are worth visiting.

Gesture Recognition

Gesture recognition is another important car innovation trend to highlight. While still in developmental stages, the concept is rather unique. A series of cameras will be mounted at various locations throughout the interior of the vehicle. These are intended to provide the on-board computer with a three-dimensional view of the driver and passengers. Artificial intelligence will then be able to interpret individual gestures (such as the specific movement of a hand or even a finger). These movements can be used by drivers to "control" a vehicle without ever having to touch a steering wheel. It is interesting to note that developers such as BMW have already incorporated basic gesture recognition technology into some of their models.

Self-Driving Vehicles

Manufacturers such as Tesla have been tackling the market for self-driving cars for some time. While glitches still occur from time to time, the fact of the matter is that such vehicles might be seen on the roads as early as 2022. Not only can the use of artificial intelligence enhance levels of personal safety, but it will often decrease driving times between two different locations.

There is no doubt that all of these unique innovations are direct results from massively increase computing power. As this technology continues to evolve, we will likely witness even more amazing solutions. In other words, the proverbial car of the future is already here today.
